Fractions can seem mysterious when we see them just as numbers. We might eliminate much of their mystery if we could somehow see them as objects that we can relate to. By looking at a hexagon as one whole object, and then splitting it up into different-sized segments, we can actually see the fractions we create. The fractions 1/2, 1/3 and 1/6 are easily visualized as parts of a hexagon.
